Waypoint Films was thrilled to be picked by Boulder agency Victors & Spoils to create this spot for Wines of Chile. Director Aaron Hartshorn meticulously pre-planned the spot in a 3D previz. We then spent a full day at the local fire training ground with special effects artists Jim Milligan and Oscar winner Tim Drnec testing various squib sizes & placement, liquid viscosities, bottle placement, etc. Director of Photography Jimmy Matlosz and Phantom tech Patrick McGraw came aboard and brought their extensive experience shooting high speed. Production Designer Eowyn Mishawn and her crack art department team created both the 'before' set and the 'after' set, as well as custom painted bottles, liquids of various colors and thicknesses, and a table with a custom machined, 500lb steel top to prevent wobble and to keep the explosives from damaging the table. The spot was finished off with the classy touch of original music composed by Boulder's Coupe Studios.

WINES OF CHILE

For this gig, we got to tap into our inner Beavis & Butthead and blow shit up!  Victors & Spoils chose Waypoint films to execute this ‘outside the box’ creative for their client Wines of Chile.  As fun and artistic as the concept was, pulling off the reality of the production was a technical challenge.  Several days of testing with our art department and special effects teams were needed to dial in squib size, bottle type, viscosity of the liquid, and many other variables.  Production designer Eowyn Mishawn and her art department built us a lovely set, then Oscar winning special effects guru Tim Drnec and Denver effects fixture Jim Milligan got to destroy it (in a safe and beautiful way).  DP Jimmy Matlosz and Phantom tech Patrick McGraw joined us from LA, bringing decades of high speed experience.  Coupe Studios provided a touch of class with a South-of-the-border voiceover and original score.  The spot was colored at Company 3 in Los Angeles.
